A wide range of CB Base Antennas from various manufacturers.
Our range of SIRIO Base Antennas is now listed on a separate page.
A new base antenna from the USA, very similar to the Solarcon A99, this one has the advantage of being easier to transport because it is in 4 sections rather than 3.
Rated at 2000 watts, and designed to withstand the elements, this CB radio base antenna offers high performance with the added benefit of being able to break down into 4 sections.
Perfect for DX'ers on the go.
A high quality wide-band base antenna, covering all CB bands plus the 10m Amateur band.
Similar to the Solarcon A99 but the build quality is far superior, the quality of the finish reminds me of Diamond Amateur antenna.
Supplied in 3 sections that simply screw together.
The top section has an adjustable internal whip, allowing you to tune the antenna from 26-31MHz.
Probably the most popular antenna ever made for CB, a straight 18ft "silver rod" base antenna with no groundplanes.
Made of tubular aluminium, supplied with U-bolts for mounting on a standard size pole. Very easy to swr.
Made in the UK, these are sold under a variety of brand names and we will send whatever is currently in stock.
A basic straight 21ft "silver rod" base antenna with no groundplanes.
Made of tubular aluminium, supplied with U-bolts for mounting on a standard size pole.
We have found 5/8 wave antennas without large groundplanes do not swr as easily as a 1/2 wave, and my preference is to go for the 1/2 wave instead of this.
A basic 1/2 wave base antenna with small ground planes (only about 1ft). A copy of the original Hygain silver rod.
In reality I think the ground planes are too small to really make any difference, so you are probably just as well having the basic 1/2 wave!
A basic 5/8 wave base antenna with small ground planes (only about 1ft). A copy of the original Hygain silver rod.
In reality I think the ground planes are too small to really make any difference.
The original Solarcon A99 fibreglass antenna from the USA (previously known as the Antron 99).
Our most popular higher priced antenna.
Very easy to erect, it comes in 3 sections which simply screw together. No screws or jubilee clips etc required.
Easy to swr - in most cases no adjustment is required, but if needed all you have to do is turn the tuning rings at the base of the antenna. Once in position simply lock the 2 rings together.
All 3 sections are also available as spare parts.
Important Note: it seems that the middle & top sections are now made in a different factory to the base section and are a different colour/finish to the base section. Also due to the way these are manufactured there is often a slight bend in them (especially the middle section). We can not replace antennas because of this "fault" so if you are unhappy about this please do not order one.
Please note that the brackets supplied with this antenna will only fit a maximum 1.5" diameter pole. If you wish to mount it on a larger pole (eg scaffolding) then you need to buy larger brackets with the antenna (eg. 2 x F25).
Groundplane Kit for A99
An optional groundplane kit to fit on the Solarcon A99.
The kit consists of 4 fibreglass groundplanes, approx 6ft long, and a mounting collar. The collar fits at the base of the A99 and the groundplanes are angled downwards at approx 34'
Original Solarcon GPK, made in USA (not to be confused with cheap UK copies).
A replacement top section for the Solarcon A99 base antenna.
Limited stock available of the original Firestik A99 upgrade. Made in USA.
Not only is this shorter than the original A99 top section, but also claims a higher gain because it is wound (like a Firestik) rather than just a straight wire.
Everyone who has used one has reported some gain over the standard A99.
Originally these were made by Firestik and proved very popular, but they have not been available for several years now - so Thunderpole have now made their own version of it in the UK!
** Our carriers now have a £10 surcharge for this antenna **
Previously known as IMAX 2000
A very long fibreglass antenna from the USA, the bigger brother of the Solarcon A99.
Personally I think this antenna is too large, it consists of 3 x 8ft sections (total 24ft) and does swing about a lot in the wind. But performance is about 3dB above the A99.
An optional groundplane kit to fit on the Solarcon Imax 2000.
The kit consists of 4 fibreglass groundplanes, approx 6ft long, and a mounting bracket.
This kit does not fit the Solarcon A99
A wide-band fibreglass base antenna, it is supplied in 3 x fibreglass sections that simply screw together.
The top section has a tunable stainless steel whip in it, that can be trimmed over a total of 5MHz.
A very small (approx 1m) base antenna which can be used indoors or outdoors. Supplied with bracket and u-bolts.
This antenna will give very poor performance compared to other base antenna, and really is a last resort if you can not fit anything else. There is no groundplane required.
Expect a range of about 4 miles if mounted outside and possibly about 2 miles in the loft.
Swr is adjusted by changing the length of the coax. A cutting chart is provided and you must use the correct length of coax as listed (roughly multiples of 9ft).
Probably the oldest and simplest antenna you could have - a basic 9ft + 9ft dipole. Although these are supplied pre-tuned for 27MHz, they are easily modified for a wide range of frequencies.
These do work surprisingly well and are easy to erect. The only disadvantage is that they are weak and will break in the wind if used in an exposed area.
A compact fibreglass base station antenna, for use when you can not erect a full size antenna.
The antenna is white fibreglass and has 3 ground plane radials on it, 2 of which are 50cm long and the third one has a loading coil on it and is 85cm long.
Range will be very limited compared to a full size antenna, but if you only need relatively local communication then this antenna could be for you.
The top section has a tunable stainless steel whip in it, that can be trimmed over a total of 5MHz, making it ideal for either 10m or 11m bands.
A groundplane kit with a 3/8 stud, to allow you to use a standard 3/8 thread mobile antenna as a homebase.
Designed to sit on top of a 1.25" pole, we have found that without being on a pole it will not swr very well.
Basic lightning arrestor.
Fits in your coax feed and provides a terminal for you to connect an earth wire to.
PL259 on one end, SO239 on the other.
A better quality version of the one above.
A coaxial lightning surge protector, to reduce the risk of damage to your radio from both lightning and static build-up on your antenna.
2 x SO239 sockets for inline connection.
