The TCB-1100 is a fully featured mobile rig, yet remains uncluttered and easy to use. It has all the features you would expect, plus other advanced features not found in other radios.

It is the now normal "multi-standard" , which means it is legal in most European countries. In the UK it works on all 80 legal channels, and in other countries (where permitted) it also works on AM. Once you have selected what country you are using it in, the legal channels & modes for that country are automatically available.

The radio has a front mounted speaker, making it ideal for "in-dash" mounting. It is supplied with both a DIN mount for in-dash and a conventional "under-dash" bracket.

The large LCD display shows both channel number and frequency, it also has a built in bar-graph signal meter. The backlighting for the display can also be selected from blue, orange or green, and has a 3 level dimmer (high, low or off).

Unusually for a radio of this price there is also a CTCSS calling sytem built into the radio - you can select all 38 CTCSS tones for both RX & TX. This is very useful if intend to use the radio in a group as a "private" radio system, allowing your set to remain silent until someone in your group calls.

There is a built-in VOX (voice activated) facility, which has 3 selectable levels. This certainly worked better than the one in the Team Roadcom, but still relies on you being able to mount the mic somewhere near your mouth!

Other features include ch.9/19 switch, dual-watch, scanning, last channel recall, tone and a new "automatic squelch".

The scanning feature is probably the best I have seen on a CB and is the only one that I know of where you can "lock out" unwanted channels - which is a very useful feature where there are odd channels with noise on them. You can "lock out" any number of channels - so in effect you can scan anything from 2 to 80 channels. Settings in the menu also allow you to select the scan delay.

New on this model is "Dynamic Squelch System" - this is a new type of "automatic squelch", and our initial tests show it to work quite well. You can either use the squelch control manually as normal, or turn it fully off to activate the "DSS".

Overall it looks like this new radio will be a  winner!
