The death of CB has been greatly overstated

Although the use of CB will never return to the heights of the early 80's, it is still very much alive.
2004 has seen our busiest start to the year that I can ever remember, and 2003 saw us sell possibly more new CB Radios than any other year since we began over 20 years ago!!
Obviously much of this is because there are fewer shops about - where once we had 7 other CB shops within 15 miles of us, there are now only 2 within 40 miles!  But there are also new users.
This last year we have seen many first time users buying a radio - either because there were a group of them wanting to keep in contact or just out of interest in radio.  We also saw a surprising number coming back to CB after anything up to 20 years since they last had one - the thirty somethings wanting to regain their teenage years??
So despite all the alternatives - mobile phones, PMR446, the internet & Amateur Radio - there still seems to be a place for CB.
Twenty three years ago I had no idea what I would be doing today, but if you had told me then that I would not only still be selling CB Radios, but would in fact be selling more than ever before, I would certainly not have believed you.
What will I be doing in another twenty three years?  Well I would not say for sure that we will not be still selling CB's, but I hope I will be preparing any newsletter via my laptop on a sun-kissed beach!

t's now been over a year since the RA announced their proposals for changes to CB - and at the time of writing this we still don't know what is going to happen or when it will happen!
As things stand at the moment, you still need a CB licence to legally use a CB. Despite rumours that the licence will be abolished this July,  this has not been confirmed and now seems very unlikely.
The abolition of the RA and their replacement by OFCOM has only added to the confusion, I am sure they have much more important things to get to grips with than CB Radio.
So, when we have more news we will let you know - but for now things carry on as normal and for those few of us who have a licence it looks like we will have to fork out again this year.

ur new online shop is now up and running and proving very popular - if you have not already had a look please do, you can find it at:

www.kcb.co.uk/shop

Already we have over 600 items listed - from radios to coax plugs - possibly more items than any other UK online CB shop? And there is still more being added every week! We hope to eventually have all the items we stock listed.
More details on this are included inside this newsletter, and your comments and feedback are always welcome especially while we are fine tuning the site.
