Our verdict: As
usual Danita have come up with a stylish and unusual design which I believe you
will either love or hate. Instead of the usual plain black box, this set has a two-tone
front with a chrome effect and large rubber knobs.
The set has a good sound on RX and seems to receive well but the microphone
sounds very "powermic'ish" and somewhat "tinny" on TX.
The microphone is shaped unlike any other I have ever seen and has buttons for
up/down channel change and scan start/stop. It has the now usual 6-pin plug.
The digital s-meter is very unusual, and I really did not like it. Every 10
seconds or so the channel display is used to show the s-meter reading (on RX) - it will
change from displaying the channel number to showing the s-meter reading (e.g. S9) for a
few seconds.
The channel arrangement is also unusual in that there is no band change switch,
you simply use the channel change to step through the channels - when you reach Ch.40 on
one band you begin on Ch.1 on the other band. This does mean it takes a little while to
swap from one band to the other. The channel display indicates 1-40 and the band is
indicated by one of two leds being lit.
The scanning facility is good, and because the bands are not 'switched' you
scan through both UK and CEPT bands - some will consider this an advantage whereas others
will consider it a disadvantage. Overall this set offers good value for money and gives good performance. It is
just a matter of personal taste as to whether you will love or hate the design.
